The power of a quality gym brand
As someone who’s trained for over 21 years, I’ve been and seen many gyms, from the absolute dungeons like Temple gym in Birmingham (home to 6x Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates) to the commercial likes of Total Fitness and JD gyms.
In complete honesty, commercial gyms never did it for me.
I felt more at home in environments that were filled with people who were there to work hard, train hard and smash their goals, as well as respect the environment they were in.
This is why I’ll always choose independent gyms. There are some absolutely amazing ones close to us, and I’ve trained at a few. One thing I always takeaway is how the gym made me feel, first impressions, service, experience and the clientele that was there.
Some are not so great, more so when memberships are unlimited, zero rules, zero respect and zero acknowledgement, for me that makes the worst training environment. Enter Volt…
I first saw Volt Gym 2.0 on an instagram reel…
Here we go, another aesthetically pleasing gym that influencers would stand around posing, but it looked cool so I wanted to go along anyway.
I rolled up and was like “wow’’ this is a gym, it looked amazing, even walking into the lobby, a friendly greeting, somewhere to sit and have a drink beforehand as well as get mentally ready before training.
As a coach a lot stood out to me, the layout, the dedicated personal trainer and coach wall, as well as a spaced-out training area.
It all had been considered… it was a real brand.
No random ad-hoc posters and flyers here and there, to me it was flawless.
From the equipment, to the colours. Everything tied together, so from an aesthetic point it was bang on…
But I was there to train, so it needs to be more than just look amazing.
It delivered. Equipment was spot on, spread out so you weren't swapping sweat with the next person, no random bits of kit squashed in for the sake of it, laid out in sections which was easy enough to navigate as well as areas to do mobility and stretch work.
It functioned as well as it looked.
Even the changing rooms and toilets looked incredible which in most independent gyms is rare.
When it came to Volt, no expense was spared in this brand, and it showed.
For me, a gym that prides themselves on how they look and operate sets them apart.
I pay attention to the small details, even their merchandise, no random hoodies with a logo slapped on, quality shone through in all the details and when you do something properly and invest then once is enough.
No unlimited memberships and over crowding here either. Just an independent gym with a community that respected it and a brand that valued quality over quantity in every way.
So whenever I’m in and around Burscough, I make sure I’ve got my training bag with me to get that Volt experience again. Because, let’s be honest, there are plenty of independent gyms knocking about, but there are few that know the power of brand and how to build a loyal customer base. Kudos to team Volt and their brand agency. 👏🏻
